I am a chronic hair cut debater though. I tend to always want what I don't have. My hair is very thick and straight, so naturally, I wanted curly hair. Then I wanted long curly hair. Then short curly hair. Then straight again. Short. Long. Etc. I have yet to find one I truly love and want to keep- always need to change it. Here's a quick glimpse at some of the styles of the past-
I've definitely tried a good deal of them (I left out some really terrible ones including a mushroom cut in second grade... thanks mom!). The 8" minimum donation will take me about to my shoulders so I can go with anything that long or shorter. My debate is about which style for my super thick hair and whether or not to go for bangs. Most of the styles I look at lately have bangs and I like them. However, I'm not sure I'd love having them and have a bad feeling they will annoy me, be hard to style and likely look wonky most of the time. I feel like most of these styles could look good both ways. Here's a fairly current photo of me, you know, for face shape and such.
And some short styles I love but not sure I have the guts (or the face) for...
I am torn on what to do so I haven't made the jump yet. Shayne prefers long hair but I try not to let that come into it too much- I have to live with it after all and the hair is going to a good cause! Once I decide on the cut, I'll have to decide if I'm going to colour it too. It's been so long since I could do that since I wanted to donate it. So many decisions!
What do you guys think? Are you pro bangs? Anti bangs? Does your spouse prefer a certain length of hair? Any other hair style suggestions?

I think you've definitely got the face for super short hair! (My face is far too round for that. Other than that I'm no help as I'm AWFUL at hair. Styling it, choosing hairstyles, urgh, everything.
ReplyDeleteMr V likes my hair short (I had a curly bob when we met) but I'm growing it out for the wedding so I can have it all up and out of my way. I'll fiddle with it all day otherwise and end up looking like a spaniel! He might get his way after that...
I always want to try super short hair but always chicken out. I had my hair up and out of the way for the wedding too. It was a wise choice as it was fairly hot that day!
DeleteYou and me and our hair debates! ;) I can't believe how long yours is!!! I'm a fan of shoulder length styles...still enough length in there to tie it back if need be. I can't wait to see what you go with...either way, you'll look great!! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how long it is either! It surprises me all the time- haha. I hear ya on the shoulder length- being able to tie it back is definitely a plus!
DeleteI am absolutely useless when it comes to all things hair. I'm sure whatever you decide will be great!!
ReplyDeleteI am too- that's part of my problem. haha. Thanks Ashley!
DeleteI have bangs and short above-the-shoulder hair now for the first time (well, it's been since April). It somehow keeps getting shorter. :P It was definitely scary, but I've never looked back! The #1 for your short style picks is similar to mine.
ReplyDeleteBangs--most days I like them. The ones I have are long enough to bobby pin back to the side if I get annoyed by them. I recently invested in some quality (read--more expensive) hair products, too, and that makes a HUGE difference with the styling. I wish it didn't so I could go back to the cheap stuff. :P Alas, the price of beauty.
http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/ is also a great hair resource. :)
Oh-and I heard that mushroom cuts were in style these days. ;)
I love that first short cut. I'm a chicken though. I definitely agree that bangs long enough to pin back are key!
DeleteMaybe the mushroom cut is the way to go.... ; )
I think you'll look great with any of those options and I bet you could pull off the shorter styles!!
ReplyDeleteI loved having bangs but this Summer was so hot that I just couldn't keep them looking nice (I have wavy hair and they curl up quickly) but I'm debating getting them again because they were so much fun and Joe loved them. I think bangs are always worth a shot - worse case scenario is that you hate them and just pin them back for a couple of months.
Thanks Kristen! I think I'm going to go for the bangs. Why not, right? Like you say, if I hate them, I'll just pin them back for a few months.
DeleteOhhh this one is tough!! Your hair is so long and pretty, but I totally can understand to you wanting to chop it...less weight and easier to manage! Your face is oval shaped so you can do anything with your hair and pull it off! I really love the Jessica Simpson style and the very first medium style pic. All your inspiration photos have some sort of bang so if you chop it, maybe have at least the side layered bang that these pics have...I like that they swept them to the side though so it's easier to deal with.
ReplyDeleteYou will look great no matter what, so do what makes you happy~!! :)
Thanks Whitney! I appreciate your input! I think the first medium pic, the last medium pic and the first short one are my favourites. I guess I like the choppy kind of style. I think I'll go for the bangs!
DeleteI did the big post wedding hair cut... and hated it! I've never had short hair before then and with my curls.. it was a disaster.
ReplyDeleteYour pics of your short hair before are all super cute, so I can't wait to see what you pick. Which one does Shayne like best?
Uh oh! I hope I don't hate it! I've had short hair before so I'm sure it will be okay. I'm sorry you hated yours : (
DeleteShayne likes the last medium pic the best- no surprise there- it looks the longest! haha
I personally (on me) hate bangs! I always think they are a good idea, I cut them, and then I end up pinning them back anyway (before I got my new job I had to wear my hair up and back). But, I think the first #2 would look amazing on you! But I also like all of the pictures you picked, so whatever you choose will look amazing! Wigs for Kids through the American Cancer Society (http://www.wigsforkids.org/) is also another really good place to donate!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling I might feel the same way about bangs. Ive always wanted to try them though so I might as well go for it. If I hate it, I'll grow them out again. Thanks for your input. I think I'm going to donate it through the Canadian Cancer Society but thanks for the suggestion!!
DeleteHow exciting! I did this exact same thing - started growing my hair out for the wedding and then donated it.
ReplyDeleteExcept, I did my 11inch cut 4 days after the wedding! haha I couldn't wait! And now I miss my long long hair. Go figure.
I just put all my trust in the hair stylist and she did a great job. I had a few pictures of styles I liked, but mostly just told her what I didn't like and she just did her thang. I'd definitely recommend going to a real salon rather than a walk-in place.
It was the most terrifying and exciting hair cut I've ever had! Plus it just felt GREAT to be helping kiddos out with my hair!
I remember seeing that! You did a major cut- 11 inches is A LOT!! I'll probably miss my long hair when it's gone too. I think that's why I'm hesitating a bit. For sure I'll be colder!
DeleteI'm a bit nervous about it but I'm excited too. I think the salon is a great idea.
First let me say, your hair is beautiful and I am jealous. But I do love the styles you picked. I really think you can do any of them, but I vote go for the bangs! I had them 2 years ago, and I finally grew them out and now I want them again, lol.
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Kelly! I have decided- bangs it is!
DeleteOhhhh wow, it is so long and pretty! I'm jealous - my hear is thin and wimpy. I love that Jessica Simpson cut. In fact, I think I took that to my stylist once!
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of your hair as thin and wimpy... haha. I think you hair always looks great in your pics! That Jessica Simpson one seems to be a favourite here.
DeleteWow! Your hair is lovely! I would say go for a bang! But not super short. I love the Jessica Simpson cut you posted. It's a cute style and still long enough for a pony tail!
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Diana! Yes- I like the pony tail reasoning.
DeleteYay! I love that you are donating your hair! I donated my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths a few years ago and it is finally long again. I didn't love short hair only because my hair is SUPER curly and frizzy. But I think any of those styles would look adorable on you! I persomally like either Jessica's hairstlye or either of the two short styles! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input Erika! I'm excited to donate my hair- it's something I have always wanted to do. I will likely miss the length too but it grows back, right?
