In a few short weeks, Shayne and I are off to Florida for a much needed vacation! We actually haven't gone away anywhere like this since 2009 when we went to Dominican for Shayne's sister's wedding. We are looking forward to the warmth and relaxation!
My parent's have a time share there and we will be staying there for a week along with my brother, sister-in-law and five year old niece. It should be a great time! They are flying down to meet us but Shayne and I have decided to drive and make a road trip of it.
We will be coming in through Detroit and down i-75 through Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and finally Florida. We have a rough idea of how we will break down the drive. We plan to drive to Knoxville, Tennessee the first day and spend the night there. That's about a nine and a half hour drive. The second day, we plan on driving about 3 hours to Atlanta, Georgia and spending the afternoon there at the aquarium and then getting a hotel. The third day, we will drive the last 7 hours to get to Orlando and check in at our condo. It will be a lot of driving but it should be fun and I'm looking forward to seeing some things along the way.
While in Florida, we plan on going to Universal (both parks) and possibly the Magic Kingdom (for my niece). Aside from that, we plan on spending some time by the pool, relaxing and enjoying ourselves. We also might head to the ocean for a day.
On the way home, we will likely try to do the drive in two days- Orlando to Knoxville and then Knoxville home. I'm very much looking forward to some time off with family and the hubby.
Now- share with me suggestions for what to do, what to see, where to eat, where to stay and all that good stuff in Orlando and all along the way!
Any one else have a winter vacation planned?

I hope you guys have a blast! I give you props for making the best out of it and driving down there. I'm not sure I'd make it through a road trip like that haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gabbi! I hope we do too! I am looking forward to the drive a bit actually- I like road trips. We drove to Florida when I was younger (around 6 or 7 I would guess) with my whole family - my parents, my 4 brothers and I all crammed in a mini van and we survived. Have great memories from it too. If I can do it that young, I'm sure I can amuse myself now!
DeleteThis brings back so many memories of my back & neck hurting after driving 12+ hours to Orlando :P
ReplyDeleteSuggestions: Don't hit up the flea markets, they suck. For Universal, I have a checklist you should use, that we used. To get to the rides before the lines start. I'll have to dig it up. You can see some of it here: http://mailboxjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Florida-Vacation-Islands-Of-Adventure-8.jpg It basically tells you to hit up the Harry Potter ride, right away. Because that line gets crazy!
Hmm.. I really think you should do Epcot. I daydream about going back there all the time!
haha- hopefully I dont get back and neck pains :(
DeleteDefinitely send me that checklist for Universal! I remember seeing that on your trip recap. I'm seriously considering Epcot now....
I hope you have a blast! We've been itching to go back to Florida and Disney world since our honeymoon almost 2 years ago!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley! It's been about 7 or 8 years since I was last in Florida so it's time to go back!
DeleteThat's great! Hope you have a really good trip! Enjoy! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy!
DeleteI hope you guys have a good trip! And I seriously looked at the map and got excited that you were almost in Virginia haha!
ReplyDeleteHaha- close I guess!
DeleteThat's awesome! I love a good road trip. Can't wait to see what you guys do, I've never been to Florida.
ReplyDeleteWe were planning on going to Paris again in April (my dad rents an apartment there for a whole month but a couple of weekends he flies back home so it's free) but we waited too long to buy the tickets and they've gone up! We'll see though. Other than that I don't think I'm going anywhere until I fly to Boston.
I love a good road trip too! I'll try to take lots of photos and do a good recap for you. This will be my third time to Florida. I went when I was about 7 and then again in Grade 11 in high school. This is my first time as an adult so it should be interesting!
DeleteParis sounds amazing!! Hope you can go!
Have fun!!! Mike keeps bugging me that we're going to the lesser of the Disneys and going on and on and on about how World is so much better and EPCOT. Yeah.
ReplyDeleteI love road trips! We did one to Cincinnati two summers ago and it was awesome.
Are you going to the one in California?! Is that what you're doing for a honeymoon? I don't think I've asked you about that yet!
DeleteI love road trips too! Great memories and adventures. I need to get Shayne in the spirit though- he's all about driving straight through and getting it over with and I want to take my time and enjoy.
Dang it! I wish you were gonna be closer to me!! Orlando is awesome...there is a million things to do, but the traffic is insane so try not to get there around rush hour!! Oh and there's an Ikea there...don't know if you have one by you! Have a great time!!
ReplyDeleteWhere abouts in Florida are you? I don't think I know that.
DeleteWe're actually staying in Kissimmee so not right in Orlando. Thanks for the tip about traffic though! We have an Ikea about an hour and a half from us here. I don't think I could go in Florida or we wouldn't fit in the car for the ride home! haha
FUN!! I love road trips... I have driven from NY to CA (or vice versa) three times! You guys will have a blast! :)
ReplyDeleteWhoa! That's a looooong drive!!
DeleteYay! Have fun! I love Florida, but I haven't been in a long time.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun! I hope you have a good time.
